My Favorite Airbnb’s In The World

It’s unbelievable to think Airbnb started in 2008 as air mattresses on the founder’s San Francisco apartment floor. I use Airbnb on well over half of my trips and love going through the different listings to find my temporary home. You can book anything from a celebrity's vacation home, a castle, or a treehouse in the Brazilian jungle.  Almost all of the best group vacations I’ve taken were in Airbnbs, from a mid-century modern Palm Springs home to the Croatian villa along the Adriatic. As of September, Airbnb has more than 7 million listings in 100,000 cities worldwide and has completely shifted the hotel and soon to be entire travel industry.

I love Airbnb homes because they’re typically larger, more unique, and a better value than a hotel. It’s also fun to connect with your local host and try out their recommended restaurants, bars, and coffee shops.

Palm Springs, California

My favorite Palm Springs memories are mostly from “Casa Millow” in the Movie Colony District. This amazing mid-century modern Airbnb is only minutes from all the downtown action.  We didn’t even need to leave home with the gorgeous pool, outdoor living area, and a glorious view of the San Jacinto Mountains. They also provide 4 matching bikes if you want to take a cruise around town and see Frank Sinatra’s famed “Twin Palms Estate” or Elvis Presley’s “Honeymoon Hideaway.” Palm Springs is small enough that you can even hop in an airport Uber and be sitting by your Airbnb pool in less than 10 minutes.

Austin, Texas

This Austin Mid-Century Modern Retreat is hands down the coolest house I’ve ever stayed in.  So cool that it's been featured in Dwell magazine twice!  This award winning home has a stylish pool, hot tub, and massive rooftop to go along with its 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.  My friends and I stayed here for the “Austin City Limits” Music festival and there was nothing better than coming home at the end of the day and jumping into the pool with 9 of your best friends.

Hvar, Croatia

My favorite part of all of Croatia was staying at “Pine Beach Villa”, just steps from the Adriatic Sea.  The host picked us up in a boat from the ferry port and less than 10 minutes later we were home.  “Hula Hula” beach club is literally outside the front gate. We loved coming back to have drinks on our huge seafront terrace to watch the nightly sunset. The sunset view was so impressive that Robert Herjavec of Shark Tank fame stopped to watch it right outside our gate. It was also only a 10 minute walk into the historical City Center, so you’re close enough, but not too close.

Sitges, Spain

This Sitges Penthouse Suite in the heart of Old Town is only a half-block from the beach and over half the space was my own private rooftop patio.  You can’t get a better location in Sitges. There are multiple restaurants, shops, and bars within a 5 minute walk. The French restaurant downstairs, “Comptoir Francais,” is cozy with two small tables outside that are perfect for wine and people watching.

Vienna, Austria

This Chic Artist’s Studio is in the heart of the hip “Margareten” District. Funky bars, cafes and home decor stores were all just around the corner.  I was so obsessed with the brunch and eggs benedict at Propeller that I had to go twice. This artist’s home-studio encompassed what traveling to me is all about - getting you out of your comfort zone, walking around, and stumbling upon cool places you found on your own.  The studio is only a 10 minute walk to the 16th Century Naschmarkt, the Historical LGBT “Cafe Savoy,” and Wien Hauptbahnof, Vienna’s central train station that connects you to most of Eastern Europe.
